Ambergris Caye

  • Ambergris Caye is the largest island in Belize, located in the northern part of the country.

  • Known for its vibrant social life, especially in the town of San Pedro. It's a great spot for those who enjoy nightlife, live music, and a bustling atmosphere.

  • Ideal for scuba diving, snorkeling, deep-sea fishing, and other water sports. There are plenty of bars, restaurants, and events happening regularly.

  • Getting around is typically done by golf cart or bicycle.

  • More crowded and touristy compared to Placencia.

  • Higher prices due to island logistics, can feel touristy,

  • No beaches to speak of!

Placencia

  • Placencia is a narrow peninsula on the mainland, closer to the mainland than Ambergris Caye with an island feel.

  • Offers a more relaxed and laid-back atmosphere. It's often described as feeling like Key West 40 years ago.

  • Great for enjoying beautiful beaches, fishing, walking.

  • There are plenty of bars, restaurants and events happening regularly right on the beach.

  • The Belizean Barrier Reef is just a short boat ride away, offering fantastic diving and snorkeling opportunities.

  • Easier access to the mainland, allowing for more convenient travel to other parts of Belize. You can drive cars, golf carts or bikes around the peninsula.

  • Less crowded with a small-town feel where everyone knows your name.

  • Placencia is generally more affordable, with lower prices for real estate and living expenses
